The most 'moaned about' motorways have been revealed

The most moaned-about motorways in the UK have been revealed... And some of them may be familiar with commuters.

From getting caught in roadworks to rush hour traffic jams, it's easy to understand why many motorists don't enjoy getting behind the wheel for longer journeys.

But it seems drivers have been taking to Twitter to mouth off about some major routes in Scotland.

The M876 topped the list for the whole of the UK, with 90.7 per cent of 1804 tweets in the last 12 months describing a negative experience – with the M898, M77 and M74 also ruffling motorists' feathers.

The carriageway is a shortcut between the M80 and the M9, providing a way for traffic between Fife and Glasgow traffic to go from the M80 to the Kincardine Bridge.

But according to social sentiment data, which reveals which motorways generate the most conversation, the road is seriously grinding motorists' gears.

Coming in at number four is the M898: It might be one of the UK's shortest motorways at just a half-mile long, but it holds its own in the driver-hate stakes.

The spur route from the M8 to the Erskine Bridge drew 81.3 per cent negativity  over 858 tweets in the last year.

Ringing in at number seven is the M77, linking Glasgow with Kilmarnock via East Renfrewshire. The motorwya garnered 8225 Tweets that were nearly three-quarters negative.

The M74, a major road which connects the M8 with the Scottish/English border, comes in at number nine – with Tweeters kicking off about it in 73.1 per cent of those posts.
