The most memorable royal family christenings, from Prince William to Prince George

Following the birth of a baby in the royal family, the world waits in anticipation for the child’s christening.

After all, this is the first time the baby will be seen in public since its debut to the world months prior and publicly surrounded by its close family members and godparents.

This week, it’s the turn of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor to take the spotlight.

The child, who was born on Monday 6 May, will be christened at the private chapel in Windsor Castle – the same location where his parents wed on 19 May 2018.

According to Buckingham Palace, the small ceremony will be a private affair and the names of the child’s godparents will remain a secret.

As per royal tradition, Archie Harrison will be baptised in the royal christening gown – a replica of the intricate lace and satin gown made for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter which has been used for royal infants for the last 11 years.

The gown has previously been worn by Archie’s cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as second cousins, Zara and Mike Tindall's daughters Mia and Lena.
