The most expensive houses sold in Wales so far this summer

Wales has always been a popular place to live and that fact was only heightened during and after the coronavirus lockdowns when many people’s lives changed forever. Priorities changed as did people’s ability to work from home making that dream home far away from the office that bit more accessible.

The latest house price across the UK is now £281,161, with the figure in Wales just above £240,000. In recent weeks there was a modest slowing down of the average house price, according to Nationwide Building Society, with June seeing house prices increase by 10.7% year-on-year compared to 11.2% the previous month. However Wales still led the way as the UK nation with the highest annual year-on-year increase. You can read more about that here.

While you can still pick up a property bargain in Wales there are also plenty of luxurious properties that cost considerably more and many of them have been sold in the past three months. The most expensive one went for almost £2m and is located in Anglesey. You can get the latest WalesOnline newsletters emailed to you directly for free by signing up here.

Below is a full breakdown of the 10 most expensive homes sold in Wales for the three months between April and June this year, according to the latest the most recent Land Registry data.

Glyngarth, Anglesey: £1.9m

Craig y Don, Anglesey (jackson-stops.co.uk)

This Grade II-listed building is said to date back to the 16th century but most of the buildings are of 19th and 20th century origins. It used to be the home of Colonel Thomas Peers Williams MP who was Commander of the Anglesey Light Infantry. It became a private charity girls’ school for 12 scholars and more recently has been used as a private house.

The property was previously owned by Reginald Mosley, the brother of pre-war British fascist leader Sir Oswald. And it’s believed the house was also home to Lillie Langtry, a mistress to the Prince of Wales who was the future King Edward VII.

The house has six reception rooms, seven bedrooms, four bathrooms, and five acres of land. There are high ceilings and fireplaces and, of course for a property of this nature, a billiard room.

Penarth, Vale Of Glamorgan: £1.5m

The property is located in the picturesque and peaceful village of Colwinston, a conservation area designated in October 1970 by the former Glamorgan County Council in recognition of the special architectural and historic interest of the village. It's thought that the home was rebuilt when the adjacent parish Church of St Michael's was revamped more than 400 years ago. This rebuild and renovation project within a long-gone era incorporated famous Sutton Stone into many of the centred Tudor arches in doorways, fireplaces, and the decorative alcove in the dining room. The five-bedroom property has, far more recently, been attentively and sumptuously refurbished while retaining and restoring its period character and is now an exceptional family home with a country cottage vibe at its core.

Llysworney, Cowbridge: £1.12m
