The most dangerous area in Bristol for cyclists revealed

An area in the city centre has been named as the most dangerous in Bristol for cyclists.

The analysis of hundreds of thousands of traffic accident records from January 2017 to December 2018 has revealed Bristol's cycling blackspots.

The data shows that the Baldwin Street Link area, which includes St Augustine's Parade and Broad Quay, was the worst for cycle accidents in Bristol, with 12 taking place there.

The analysis looked at all accidents recorded by police forces across the country that involved at least one cyclist, and in which someone - whether the cyclist or someone else - was hurt or even killed.

The crashes at the Baldwin Street Link area led to 12 casualties, affecting a total of 24 vehicles - including both bikes and cars.

It was followed by the Redcliffe Way roundabout - including a stretch of road at the bottom of Redcliffe Street.

There were 11 cycle-related crashes there over the 24 month period - involving a total of 22 vehicles and injuring 11 people.

A stretch of Park Street saw nine cycle-related crashes during the same period, injuring a total of nine people.

There were eight further crashes on a stretch of Upper Maudlin Street, injuring a total of eight people.

Bristol City Council has been contacted for comment.
