The most crime-ridden streets in Port Talbot

There were 15 crimes involving violence and sexual offences in Port Talbot in just one month, official police data shows.

The most recent figures, which show the number of different crimes reported to South Wales Police in December, 2021, confirm a total of 39 crimes were reported in the Port Talbot area, 26 in the Briton Ferry West area, 21 in the Briton Ferry East area, and 21 in the Baglan area.

Alongside the 15 incidents involving violence and sexual offences recorded in Port Talbot, there were six incidents involving public order, five of criminal damage and arson, four of "other theft," three of shoplifting, three of anti-social behaviour, one of burglary, one involving drugs and one incident labelled "other crime".

Across Briton Ferry West and Briton Ferry East, there were 28 incidents of violence and sexual offences, eight of anti-social behaviour and four of criminal damage and arson, to list just a few of the crimes recorded.

Whilst in Baglan, 10 incidents of violence and sexual offences, five of anti-social behaviour and three of public order were among the crimes reported.

The streets/areas with the highest number of crimes recorded for each area were:

  • Port Talbot: "at or near supermarket" at the top of Station Road - eight crimes reported
  • Briton Ferry East - on or near A474 - six crimes reported
  • Briton Ferry West - on or near Llansawel Crescent - four crimes reported
  • Baglan - on or near Wellfield Road - six crimes reported

Crime data is broken down into "major" and "minor" crime types, with each incident given a different label to categorise what kind of incident it is. These categories include burglary, criminal damage, sexual offences, violence against the person, fraud and forgery, to name a few. "Additional crime" covers a broad range of offences not covered in other categories, including, but not limited to, homophobic crime, knife crime and gun crime.

Port Talbot

South Wales Police received 39 reports of crime in Port Talbot in December, 2021; Fifteen of these were reports of violence and sexual offences, six were crimes related to public order, five were related to criminal damage and arson, four were labelled "other theft," three related to anti-social behaviour and three related to shoplifting. There were also single incidents of burglary, drug and "other crime".

The most crime-ridden street/area in Port Talbot was "on or near supermarket" in Station Road . Here, eight crimes were reported: two incidents of anti-social behaviour, two related to public order, two of shoplifting and two labelled "all other crime".

There were three incidents reported on or near Station Road - all three of which were incidents related to violence and sexual offences - whilst there were two crimes reported on or near Talbot Road , on or near Tudor Street , on or near Central Road , on or near Ty-draw Place , and at Port Talbot Parkway station .

There were also four "stop and search" searches carried out in Port Talbot in December, 2021. Three of these took place or or near Courtland Place and were searches for "controlled drugs," and another stop and search took place on or near the parking area on Port Talbot Road, also for "controlled drugs".

Briton Ferry West

Officers received 27 reports of crime in the Briton Ferry West area last December. Of these, 14 were reports of violence and sexual offences, six were incidents of anti-social behaviour, four related to public order offences, two related to criminal damage and arson and one related to burglary.

The street with the highest number of crimes reported was on or near Llansawel Crescent , with four crimes reported: one of anti-social behaviour, one of burglary, one of criminal damage and arson and one labelled "all other crime".

On or near Parc Newydd saw three reports of crime last December, all of which were for violence and sexual offences.

There were also two reports of crime on or near Giant's Grave Road , both of which related to violence and sexual offences, on or near Glanymor Street, one of which related to anti-social behaviour and one of which related to violence and sexual offences and on or near Ruskin Street , one of which related to anti-social behaviour and one of which related to public order.

There were also two crimes reported on or near Shelone Road, both of which related to violence and sexual offences and on or near the Sports/Recreation area near James Field, one of these incidents related to public order and the other involved violence and sexual offences.

Briton Ferry East

In Briton Ferry East, there were 25 reports of crime last December. Of these, 14 were reports of violence and sexual offences and there were three reports of public order offences, two reports of "other theft," two reports of anti-social behaviour incidents, two reports of incidents related to criminal damage and arson, one report of burglary, and one report of vehicle crime.

The area with the highest number of crimes reported in Briton Ferry East was "on or near A474" , with six incidents reported. Three of these related to public order, two to violence and sexual offences and one to vehicle crime.

There were four crimes reported on or near Middleton Street , all of which related to violence and sexual offences. There were also two incidents reported on or near Manor Way, one of which related to anti-social behaviour and the other violence and sexual offences, two incidents reported on or near Old Road , both of which related to violence and sexual offences and two incidents reported in Stryd Caroline/Caroline Street, one related to theft and the other to violence and sexual offences.

Baglan

Of the 21 crimes reported in Baglan last December, 10 were reports of violence and sexual offences, five related to antisocial behaviour, three were related to public order and three were labelled "other theft" | Here's the approximate areas the crimes were reported in. In Baglan, there were 21 reports of crime last December. Of these, 10 were reports of violence and sexual offences, five related to anti-social behaviour, three were related to public order and three were labelled "other theft".

The area with the highest number of crimes reported in Baglan in December, 2021, was "on or near Wellfield Road " with six incidents reported, two of which related to public order, two were labelled "other theft," one related to anti-social behaviour and one was labelled "all other crime".

There were five crimes reported on or near Pentyla-baglan Road , three of which related to violence and sexual offences, one related to criminal damage and arson and one was labelled "other crime".

There was also two crimes reported on or near Brookside Close , one related to anti-social behaviour and the other to shoplifting, and two crimes reported on or near Pentwyn Baglan Road , one related to anti-social behaviour and the other to violence and sexual offences.
