Is world’s tallest ‘Lego’ skyscraper the most beautiful building in Croydon?

A spectacular lightshow will bathe Croydon’s newest landmark in colour as it finally prepares to welcome its first tenants later this month.

As high as the London Eye, the Ten Degrees skyscraper was constructed Lego-style from pods assembled off-site and stacked on top of each other, making it the tallest modular building in the world.

Operator Greystar believes 100A George Street will become one of London’s most desirable build-to-rent addresses, with 546 flats across its two towers of 38 and 44 storeys.

One-bedroom apartments start at £1450pcm, with three-bedroom suites from £2380pcm.

The first residents move in at the end of April following six months of delays, which have been blamed on a backlog of certificates and paperwork from the pandemic.

Amenities include a rooftop gym, sky lounge, co-working space, rooftop and ground level terraces, a private dining room, pet spa, games lounge and cinema.

The method of construction was used to reduce disruption to the surrounding area while creating more sustainable homes.

Greystar, based in South Carolina, has seized on Europe’s rental sector with multi-family apartments proving more resilient than office and retail.

Its research suggests that with home price-to-income rations reaching record highs across Europe, and particularly in London and Paris, the rental sector will increasingly become the only affordable option for many families.

Todd Marler, senior director of multifamily operations for Greystar UK, said: “Ten Degrees will set new benchmarks for renting in London by offering high quality housing that perfectly blends work and leisure while providing the utmost comfort and convenience.

“We used modern methods of construction which means Ten Degrees was built in half the time of traditional construction, and without as much disruption to the surrounding area.

“Homes manufactured offsite are also significantly more energy efficient, which benefits residents, the planet and us a long-term owner and manager of rental housing.”

The lighting display to launch Ten Degrees is on each night from 7pm to midnight until May 7.
