The moment this week that proved Mauricio Pochettino was right about former Tottenham striker

Vincent Janssen may unfortunately come away with an award at the end of the season for all the wrong reasons.

Now playing his football out in Mexico for Monterrey, the Dutchman is featuring regularly for his new club after departing Tottenham on a permanent basis in 2019.

However, the miss of the season gong could now be set to come his way.

In action once again on Friday in his team's CONCACAF Champions League last 16 home match against Atletico Pantoja, the 26-year-old dropped an absolute clanger with a stunning miss from point-blank range in the final 20 minutes of the contest.

Leading 3-0 from the first leg and 2-1 up on the night, Janssen wasted a glorious opportunity to net his second of the evening as he somehow failed to convert a cross in from the left.

With the goalkeeper out of position to leave the striker with an open goal three yards out, the ball cannoned off his heel and went wide of the target.

Janssen lunged to retrieve the ball but by the time he had reacted he had no chance of keeping it in play.

Burying his head in his hands after his shocker, his teammates looked on in disbelief and were questioning how on earth the ball didn't find the back of the net.

While it was definitely one to forget for one of Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham signings, he did atone for it minutes later as he teed up Jesus Gallardo to extend their lead by two on the night and complete a comfortable 6-1 aggregate win.

Hitting six goals from his 21 games in all competitions this season, Janssen still has a bit to do if he is to get close to last campaign's tally of 12 goals from 35 games.

Following Monterrey's win over Atletico Pantoja, the Mexican side will now take on Columbus Crew of the MLS for a place in the semi-finals.

Scoring in both of their last 16 games this month, Janssen will have his fingers crossed that he's in the headlines once again for all the right reasons when they return to action.
