Olivier Giroud has another battle on his hands this season if he wants to get regular first team football at Chelsea.
The 33-year-old rarely played for much of the 2019/20 campaign, however when the Premier League returned after the COVID-19 break he was a key member of the first team.
The World Cup winner scored big goals for the Blues and was a major reason for them getting a top four spot and into the Champions League.
However, with the arrival of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech this summer, there are no guarantees he will be in the starting XI once again.
In the 3-1 win over Brighton in Chelsea's Premier League opener, Giroud, along with Tammy Abraham, was an unused substitute.
Werner started the match and impressed, winning the penalty for the opening goal and being a real threat for the Blues.
It means that Abraham and Giroud will have to work their way into the starting team.
And there was one moment after the game which showed that Giroud is working hard to fight for his place as well.
As usual following a match, the unused substitutes, or those who didn't play much in the game, head out to do sprints.
The players went through their workout, before they headed back into the changing room to get ready to leave.
However, Giroud was the one player who stayed out on the pitch and, under the watchful eye of the fitness coach, continued doing sprints by himself.
The Frenchman was out there for several minutes before he eventually also left to head back into the changing room.
With a wealth of talent in the attacking areas for Lampard this season, the Blues boss is going to have a tough job in picking what will be best for each game.
Last night, the Blues played with two up top, and that could be a benefit to Giroud and Abraham.
Giroud has been linked with a potential move away this summer, but the France international is ready to fight for his place in the Chelsea side.
