The moment protester pours water over Jacob Rees-Mogg as he steps into Mercedes

The moment a protester poured water over Jacob Rees-Mogg as he stepped into his Mercedes has been caught on camera.

The MP for North East Somerset was leaving a public speaking engagement at the Friends' Meeting House in London when the incident took place.

One man held a megaphone and shouted: "In you go Jacob, you horrible little man. Take your fascism with you," as he got into a black Mercedes, according to Somerset Live.

Another protester can be seen pouring water from a bottle on the MP before he can shut the car door. You can watch the footage in the Tweet below.

The man holding the megaphone then shouts: "Have a drink of water. It's European water."

The MP doesn't react to the protester's actions but continues to get into the car and close the door.

Mr Rees-Mogg later made light of the situation, saying to Mail Online: "It is not easy to turn me into a Tory wet."

The jest referred to the label "wets" created by Margaret Thatcher in 1979 to address her opponents within the party.

This is the latest in a similar series of incidents, with Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage and UKIP party member Carl Benjamin both recently having milkshakes thrown over them by angry protesters.

In Bristol, police are appealing for information after a Green Party campaigner was allegedly thrown to the floor at Bristol Temple Meads station.

Chris Millman, 60, was allegedly flung over a bike stand by the station’s rear entrance at about 6.30pm on May 23, the day of the European Elections.

Mr Millman thinks the alleged attack may have been a response to incidents of milkshake being hurled at politicians.

The activist told Bristol Live his alleged attacker was shouting about milkshakes and acid, as well as complaining that "passers-by were judging him because of his bald head".
