The moment passengers on a flight to Germany realise they've accidentally been taken to Edinburgh instead

This was the moment passengers on a flight that was supposed to be going to Germany realise they have accidentally been taken to Edinburgh instead.

And, remarkably, everyone seems to be taking it in good humour.

Footage published by the Daily Record shows passengers laughing in disbelief as one member of the airline crew tries to explain what has happened.

The flight was supposed to have been going to Düsseldorf on Monday - and it wasn't instantly clear why it had landed more than 500 miles away instead.

Footage shows passengers realising the error when the "welcome to Edinburgh" announcement is made.

They take it in good humour, tittering in surprise as the crew-member asks the packed plane over the flight's speaker system: "No one to Edinburgh? No one to Edinburgh?"

"Holey smoley," he starts.

"No one to Edinburgh? No one to Edinburgh?"

The passengers shout back "no" and he answers: "Ok. Please don't make photos or videos."

"The embarassment... they've taken us to the wrong place," one passenger can be heard saying.

"Oh my god," another passenger titters under their breath.

A second video shows the crew-member telling passengers they would be returning to Düsseldorf, adding the flight time would be 1hr 28min.

He adds: "We apologise about that.

"We don't know where.....where the problem is but we do the best to bring you as soon as possible to..."

The passengers laugh again as the crew-member pauses again as if checking his notes: "Dusseldorf. Sorry."

It is understood the mistake was made after the flight paperwork was submitted incorrectly on Monday.

The plane, which started at London's City Airport, was later redirected and landed in Düsseldorf.

WDL Aviation ran the British Airways flight through a leasing deal, it is understood.

In a statement yesterday, BA said: "We are working with WDL Aviation, who operated this flight on behalf of British Airways, to establish why the incorrect flight plan was filed.

"We have apologised to customers for this interruption to their journey and will be contacting them all individually."
