The moment hundreds of people marched through the city centre - this is what they were supporting

Hundreds of people marched through Manchester city centre today in solidarity with Sudan protesters.

More than 300 campaigners gathered in Piccadilly Gardens on Sunday afternoon before setting off on a march.

According to witnesses, they marched down Mosley Street waving Sudanese flags and chanting in support of protesters in the African country.

They kept off the tram tracks so they didn't delay Metrolink services.

Protesters then gathered in St Peter's Square.

The march was organised in support of civilian rule in Sudan.

Thousands of people in Sudan have been taking part in peaceful protests against brutal militia.

The protests started over cuts to bread and fuel subsidies in December 2018, but later morphed into anger at President Omar al-Bashir's rule.

Sudan's military ousted the president in April, but since then talks between the military and demonstrators calling for a democratic government collapsed.

Security forces have killed at least 124 people across the country in a sweeping crackdown, according to protest organisers.

More than 700 people are estimated to have been injured.
