The moment homeless couple are 'attacked' by gang of youths near play park

A resident has captured a shocking video showing a gang of youths allegedly carrying out an attack on a homeless couple in his neighbourhood.

The footage was shot in Ayresome Gardens in Middlesbrough, and it appears to show a group of youths circling close to a play park.

A voice is heard shouting "leave them alone" as others run towards the scene, TeessideLive reports.

It cannot be seen if any blows are struck, as the video was shot from a distance. But the eyewitness told Teesside Live a man and woman were kicked and beaten and left sobbing.

The resident, who lives on nearby Tennyson Street, had been walking in the central Middlesbrough park when he saw the gang gathered around two people.

"I had been passing through the park and spent some time in there when I noticed a group of teenagers running one way," he said.

"Some of them had been hitting a woman and a man while they were laid on the floor. The others were watching and did nothing.

"They both had tears in their eyes after.  It was a horrible situation.

"I don't know where the humanity is."

The incident reportedly occurred at about 7pm on Tuesday, May 14. The witness said people rushed to the couple's aid after the incident and the police were called.

"I gave them £20 and other people gave them money too so they had somewhere to stay for the night," he said.

Cleveland Police confirmed they were aware of the alleged incident.

"We have spoken to the victims and they did not want to take it any further," she said.

They had not suffered any visible injuries and an ambulance was not called.

The victims were given advice, she added, but as they did not want to speak about the incident, officers were unable to take the matter further.
