The moment Erik Lamela applauded Oliver Skipp in Burnley draw and Dele Alli's special landmark

A pre-match change

There was a change to the usual pre-match routine at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.

Both teams usually line up for the Premier League fair-play handshake but that was scrapped ahead of the weekend due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Burnley and Spurs players did indeed stand alongside each other ahead of kick-off before going their separate ways as Jon Moss blew his whistle after the Premier League anthem had finished.

It may be a while before the pre-match handshake returns as the Premier League revealed that it may not occur for the foreseeable future.

Burnley fans mock Eric Dier

Eric Dier was named in the Tottenham team for the third successive game by Jose Mourinho for the trip to Turf Moor.

In the headlines on Wednesday evening after entering the crowd following an incident involving his brother, the head coach had no hesitation in starting the versatile player once again.

He duly impressed in his 90 minutes on the pitch as he played at both centre-back and in midfield.

Dier, unsurprisingly, was targeted by the home fans throughout the match as they chanted "Eric Dier, your brother's a t***" from the very first whistle.

However, he had the last laugh as he produced a sensational tackle on Matej Vydra in the closing stages to stop the Burnley man from winning the game.

Lamela applauds Skipp

Oliver Skipp also kept his place in the Tottenham side on Saturday evening after shining in midweek against Norwich City.

Restricted to appearances off the bench since August, Mourinho decided the time was right to give the player a a start in the FA Cup and he duly repaid him.

Skipp only played the 45 minutes at Turf Moor as he was one of two players to be sacrificed but he certainly didn't look out of place in his time on the pitch.

Clearing one off the line and later playing a very good ball to Japhet Tanganga after some neat play, Erik Lamela was quick to applaud him prior to the break for something he tried.

The 19-year-old saw his teammate make a run forward but his low pass was unfortunately cut out by the Burnley midfield.

Whereas some players may have kicked up a bit of a fuss that the ball didn't find their feet, Lamela applauded Skipp's effort and it will have gone down well with the youngster.

Dele Alli's landmark

Dele Alli finally got back on the scoresheet on Saturday with a penalty against Burnley.

Last scoring in the 2-1 win over Norwich towards the end of January, the attacking midfielder has endured a bit of a barren run in front of goal for well over a month now.

He didn't look to be a player short of confidence though as he expertly sent Nick Pope the wrong way from 12 yards to find the corner.

It was a bit of a special goal for Alli as well as it was his 50th in the Premier League since moving to the club from MK Dons back in 2015.
