The moment Edinburgh Hibs fans chant crude anti-Coronation song during match

Hundreds of locals and tourists swarmed Edinburgh’s West Princes Street Gardens to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III - but not was happy about the event.

This was evident in a video that showed a large section of the Hibernian support singing ‘you can shove your Coronation up your a**e!’

Fans at Easter Road performed the chant during their 2-1 victory over St Mirren on Saturday May 6.

In a video shared on TikTok by StuartGoldie86 from yesterday’s match, those backing the Cabbage and Ribs could be heard chanting the anti-monarch slogan from a corner of the stadium.

A banner stating 'F**k The Coronation - Feed The Poor' was also unfurled during the match by fans showing their displeasure at the lavish royal event.

The Hibs fans were not alone in showing their opposition to the Coronation in the capital with hundreds of residents attending a rally that was held just up the road from Leith on Calton Hill.

Those in attendance held signs that read ‘not my king’ and ‘no one's subject’ as they called for the abolition of the monarchy.

The rally began at the National Museum of Scotland and ended at Calton Hill at around 3pm on Saturday May 6.

One protester at the event, who went by the name of C, spoke to Edinburgh Live: "We are here today to protest the coronation of King Charles and to advocate for Scottish Independence.

"I'm from Ireland so we also feel a great sense of solidarity in terms of struggling against the monarchy, colonialism and imperialism on this island.

"The coronation is this huge event gilded in gold with no expense spared for the monarchy that comes at a time when people are struggling to feed their families and pay fuel bills."

She continued: "It is insulting and devastating for people to see this huge obnoxious display of wealth from people who are supposed to be leading or representing them.

"They are just throwing it in their faces that they have all this money to throw away while people are struggling."

A number of SNP, Green and Independent Edinburgh councillors attended as well as hundreds of activists from across the capital and surrounding areas.
