The moment Eddie Nketiah proved to Unai Emery he is more than a goalscorer against Bayern Munich

Unai Emery has praised Eddie Nketiah for the skill he showed to get at the Bayern Munich defence in Arsenal's 2-1 win over the German champions in Los Angeles.

The Gunners won their second match of their USA tour by once again trusting in their young players, with former Under-23 coach Fredie Ljungberg watching on from the dugout.

After starting throgh the middle in the 3-0 victory against Colorado Rapids, Nketiah saw Arsenal youngsters Bukayo Saka, James Olayinka and Gabriel Martinelli hit the back of the net.

He had to wait until the International Champions Cup clash with Bayern Munich to get his goal, coming off the bench to grab the winner in the final moments of the game.

That wasn't the moment that impressed Emery, however. Speaking in his post-match press conference in LA, the Spaniard picked out another incident during the match that caught his eye.

Standing at five-foot-nine, Nketiah went up against Germany's towering centre-back Niklas Sule and got the better of the giant defender.

Even with an eight inch height advantage, the Bayern stopper could not get the better of the Arsenal youngster. That is the highlight that will stick in Emery's mind and it could lead to a role for Nketiah in the first team squad this season.

"We want to use different young players to help," said Emery after the game. "Some players will be with us in pre-season, some players will be with us in the season.

"Each minute they show their performance against big players.

"For example the one-to-one [Eddie] Nketiah against [Niklas] Sule showed how he can respond."

After making his debut in Arsene Wenger's final season in charge, Lewisham-born Nketiah has played 19 games for the first team, scoring three goals.

He found the net in the Premier League for the first time on the final weekend of the Premier League last season.
