The moment Brett Peter Cowan, the murderer of Daniel Morcombe, finds out he is under arrest

Police footage of the moment detectives arrested Daniel Morcombe's murderer Brett Peter Cowan has been released for the first time.

It has been made public as Queensland coroner Terry Ryan issued his findings into the 2003 murder of the Sunshine Coast schoolboy, over which Cowan was convicted in 2014.

In the short clip, officers can be seen confronting Cowan and tell him repeatedly to stay where he is.

"We are investigating the abduction and murder of Daniel Morcombe," Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Blanchfield tells Cowan after introducing himself.

Cowan is later seen talking on a mobile phone and asks if he is under arrest.

Police tell him he will not be if he is prepared to speak to investigators, but he replies: "Nah, youse can arrest me".

After being arrested for the murder of Daniel Morcombe he appears to remain composed and says "yep, cool".

"I'm under arrest for Daniel's, Daniel Morcombe's murder," he says into the phone.
