The moment a fan was hit exactly where it hurts by a corner flag as Matt Ritchie's wild celebration goes wrong

It was a moment that sent Newcastle United fans into a state of utter delight as Isaac Hayden flicked home in stoppage time.

As Hayden sprinted towards the Milburn Stand it was the type of moment fans dream of as a 94th-minute winner stunned the six-times Premier League champions and one-time Champions League winners to a defeat on Tyneside.

But the ecstasy soon turned to sheer agony for one fan as Matt Ritchie pulled off his trademark corner flag party piece.

Ritchie probably knew nothing about it at the time but the corner flag spun its way towards an unsuspecting fan and appeared to strike him exactly where it hurts.

In a video captured by a fellow fan, the deflated United supporter is seen taking a seat on a step to get his breath back after a painful moment.

One Tweet summed it up after the game, which read: "Apologies from Matt Ritchie... and the corner flag".

Everybody at Chronicle Live also hopes that the fan is feeling better and at least able to enjoy the three points this weekend.
