The moment a car exploded after bursting into flames in a residential Swansea street

Explosions rocked a Swansea street when a car went up in flames. Crowds gathered in Caemawr Road in Clase after the vehicle was spotted aflame at the side of the road.

It is alleged that the vehicle had been seen driven at speed through the neighbouring roads earlier in the day.

One resident said: “We were in our garden and saw a cloud of black smoke and heard the car alarm going off.

“We thought a car had collided with another so ran over, but got told a lad was seen running down towards Vicarage road.

“We had just put the kids to bed because they heard it and came running out as it scared them”.

South Wales Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen from an address in Clase earlier that morning.

A spokesman asked for anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting occurrence 2000192453.

A Mid and West Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: "Firefighters from Morriston attended a vehicle fire in Caemawr Road, Morriston.

"One vehicle was well alight and totally destroyed by fire. Firefighters extinguished the blaze using one breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

"The incident is under police investigation".
