The MLB world is so excited at the Marlins hiring Kim Ng as first female GM in MLB history

The Miami Marlins just made a whole bunch of history with their hire of Kim Ng as their new general manager.

She is officially the first woman to ever be hired as a general manager in the history of Major League Baseball. She’s also the first Asian American to get a GM job in Major League Baseball.

This is groundbreaking. But, really, Ng has been ready for this job for years.

Ng has been MLB’s senior vice president of baseball operations for the last nine years and she’s been an assistant general manager for both the Yankees and the Dodgers. She’s been in the front office for eight playoff teams in her career and helped build three World Series championship teams.

The Marlins announced the hire on Twitter.

She’s interviewed for a few different general manager spots in the past but never landed the job — until now. And it’s about time.

Fans, media and players from the baseball world praised the hire.
