The mixed Cardiff City player ratings as defence undone early and attack misfires

A second-minute goal consigned Cardiff City to a Severnside derby defeat against Bristol City despite a dominant display from Neil Harris' side.

Here's how the Bluebirds players rated:

Alex Smithies 7

Made a couple of really strong cross collections and barked orders all night. Nothing he could do for the goal.

Leandro Bacuna 5

It's difficult to criticise because it's just not his position and he is bound to be inconsistent there. But he was caught out a few times in defence and squandered a number of chances going forward.

Sean Morrison 6

Perhaps could have been closer to Martin for the opener, was too easy. But after that had another very solid outing.

Curtis Nelson 6

Got nutmegged for the goal, but other than that barely put a foot wrong. Made a crucial interception to deny Callum O'Dowda a massive chance.

Joe Bennett 6

Gave the ball away for the goal. But really grew into it as it went on and sent in a number of really dangerous crosses.

Marlon Pack 6

Some really nice set pieces and hung back when Ralls set off to join the attack. A solid enough outing for the midfielder.

Joe Ralls 7 (star man)

Some ill-discipline at the start of the match but really embodied the fierceness of the derby. He put a foot in, went on driving runs and tried to impact the game.

Sheyi Ojo 5

Looked exciting at times when he was on the ball but a couple of times his final pass let him down. Needed more from him.

Harry Wilson 6

Had a number of chances fall his way, as well as creating his own, but just couldn't find the back of the net. Was a nuisance around the edge of the box.

Junior Hoilett 6

A strong showing for the winger, who looked to be going from strength to strength. Was involved in some positive stuff on that left-hand side but faded a little.

Kieffer Moore 5

Put his body on the line once again and won countless aerial duels. But had a couple of really good opportunities which he squandered.

Subs

Robert Glatzel (on for Ojo 63) 5

Did not have the desired impact Neil Harris would have wanted from his impact sub.

Josh Murphy (on for Hoilett 77) 5

Did little to really impact the game when he came on.
