The minute it looked like Liverpool were going to win the Premier League

It was the 60 seconds when it looked like it might just happen for Liverpool.

The clock had struck 27 minutes in Brighton when Glenn Murray rose highest to bullet home a corner to give his side the lead against Manchester City .

When the news filtered through to Anfield - where Liverpool's 1-0 lead against Wolves had already put them top - the stadium erupted in euphoria.

Supporters were beginning to dream... could this be the year the highest honour in England was returning to Merseyside?

The fans barely had time to reminisce about the last time they had won the English top division in 1989/90, when they were brought back to earth with an almighty thud.

It was now 28 minutes in at Brighton and Sergio Aguero, a man who knows a thing or two about winning titles, had fired home to level proceedings.

Liverpool were still in the driving seat but for how much longer now the momentum was with City?

Just 10 minutes is the answer to that one.

Aymeric Laporte headed home from a corner to put City back on top of the Premier League table.

And from then on it looked like there was only one place the title was headed.

Pep Guardiola 's men were now playing with the swagger that's come to define them in the past two years and by 63 minutes, it was 3-1.

Riyad Mahrez had scored a beauty for his side and the belief was slowly draining from the sea of red at Anfield.

That was compounded when Gundogan's curling free-kick made it 4-1 against Brighton.

Sadio Mane stooped low to head home a second for him and Liverpool with less than 10 minutes on the clock but the league had already been wrapped up.

City's incredible record of 32 wins from 38 had given them the title for a second season under Guardiola.

The season isn't over for Liverpool, however, as they prepare to travel to Madrid to face off against familiar foes Tottenham in the Champions League final next month.

But they'll have to wait another year if they're to get their hands on an elusive Premier League title.
