Here’s Giovanna Battaglia, the serene and influential stylist at the Gucci show demonstrating neo-Italian chic. Neo as in not as sexy-sexy as old school Milanese chic but still glam in that a silky V-shaped flash of skin at the decolletage and at the knee is just that bit racy. What can us Normaltons learn from her look? Two things. First, don’t dismiss hot colour once the leaves are falling; and second, this season a chunky watch plus earrings is the way to harden up a silk shirt. Lose the statement necklace, yeah? Molto sexy, va-va voom or simply “you’re looking high voltage”. These are the fashion prefixes/chatup lines to aim for if channelling old-school Milanese glamour – and this metal-embellished dress by Karen Millen is just the ticket for getting that look. Mind you, for authenticity you’ll need to accessorise with heels, a ritzy mansion party and lashings of expensive fizz served by slick-haired waiters. Photograph: Karen Millen
In Milan Carine Roitfeld hasn’t veered too far from her signature day look – a fabulous pencil skirt with something on top that’s quite low cut but classy and perfectly pitched undone hair. This outfit, which she wore to the Fendi catwalk show, is vintage Roitfeld but then it is the season of the pencil skirt so why wouldn’t you stick to a trend you’ve been influential in creating? Naturally she teamed said skirt with a fabulous pair of peep-toe boots boasting swirling gold studding, which looked major. Photograph: Venturelli
You can rely on Prada for a quirky accessory and this hairclip is their latest dinky item. Orange was a big trend in New York, though it also comes in red, cream, black and rather fabulous blue. London designers went mad for sky and powder blues last week, but the best thing is that your hair will jiggle. Photograph: Prada
Fendi proposed a new look for the eyes last week during its spring Milan show: golden foil eyeshadow teamed with large Perspex specs without frames. It’s quite the statement. There was also something rather femme-fatale-meets-Hitchcock about the model’s hair during this show. It’s a style The Briefing is calling the forgot-my-headscarf-when-I-drove-the-convertible-to-the-supermarket look. Photograph: Catwalking.com
