The micropub that wants to open on Gloucester Road

From The Drapers Arms in Horfield to The Wooden Walls in Staple Hill, the number of micropubs in Bristol is on the rise and now plans to transform a former retail site on Gloucester Road have been summited to Bristol City Council.

Ambergate Planning and Development (APD) said it wants permission to create a pocket-sized boozer at 44 Gloucester Road that fits "well within the overall character of the Bishopston area".

The site now awaits council consideration after it was listed as vacant to rent on Realla last month. The establishment has two floors of residential use above and a wide range of nearby businesses, including the Ale House & Kitchen, in the mix of the Gloucester Road community.

The former art and stationery supplies business has recently undergone a full refurbishment to improve its appearance until a change of use has been established.

And should the council approve the plans, APD said there should be no "disturbance" to the "surrounding locality" or "above the unit itself" having proposed opening hours between 12 noon and 10.30 pm on Monday-Sunday.

Gloucester Road is known for its independent businesses and for being home to a variety of interesting restaurants and boozers.
