The Miami Dolphins’ 2019 practice squad signees

The Miami Dolphins’ 2019 campaign is clearly about one thing: player development. The Dolphins have quickly become a young group of hopeful startups and underachievers looking to make the most of a second chance at playing professional football. But player development isn’t just something that happens on the 53-man roster and on Sundays — it also happens on the practice field and on the whiteboard.

Which is what makes Miami’s practice squad collection such an interesting group for this year. In a perfect world, a handful of these players will make the leap to a 53-man roster and contribute on Sundays — just not any time soon.

The Dolphins’ current practice squad signings are below:

  • QB Jake Rudock (Dolphins)
  • CB Nik Needham (Dolphins)
  • DT Gerald Willis (Ravens)
  • DE Dewayne Hendrix (Dolphins)
  • LB Christian Sam (Patriots)

The Dolphins will have eleven total spots eligible for practice squad players — as they AFC East teams were selected as part of an initiative to cultivate more international players into the NFL. That designation for the Dolphins figures to go to OL/DL Durval Queiroz (Brazil), who came to Miami this offseason as a defensive tackle but recently switched over to playing offensive guard.

Stay tuned as the Dolphins add more talent to the practice squad this week.
