The Mets have suddenly become a fun bandwagon to jump on if your MLB team stinks

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning.

We’re approaching the middle of August, which means chances are the baseball team you root for is having an awful season. I’m a Red Sox fan so I definitely know what that feels like right now.

Thankfully I have a new team to root for. A new bandwagon to jump on. A new squad to cheer on as they push their way toward the playoffs.

That team, is the New York Mets.

Baseball can often be boring. 162-game seasons will do that to a league.

The Mets, however, are the opposite of boring. They’re actually a fun team that is very easy to enjoy, for many reasons.

Have you seen their burly DH, Daniel Vogelbach, run the bases? Dude might be a big boy but he can absolutely fly around the bags and every time he does it fans go crazy.

Speaking of Vogelbach, the Mets had special walkup songs yesterday to celebrate Women’s Day (which was awesome) and while there were many great selections, Vogelbach won the day by choosing “Milkshake.” You know, the one that brings all the boys to the yard. It was so good.

The best thing about the Mets, though, is the way their closer takes the field during home games. Edwin Diaz’s bullpen entrances are electric and awesome and should be shown live on ESPN every time they happen. His entrances are right up there with some of the best we’ve ever seen in baseball history.

The Mets – sorry, our Mets – are currently seven games up on the defending-champion Braves in the NL East and have just four fewer wins than the star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers. Oh, and they also have two more wins than those bad baserunning New York Yankees over in the Bronx, which has me feeling pretty good this morning.

Let’s go, fans of other loser baseball teams. Jump on this bandwagon with me.

Let’s go meet the Mets. Let’s step right up and greet the Mets.

And let’s have some fun.
