The Met Office forecast as summer is set to return to Wales this weekend

After days of wet weather across Wales, sunshine and warmer air is on the horizon for the weekend.

The jet stream that has been hovering over the UK will move away over the next few days, BBC Meteorologist Derek Brockway said.

This will open the door for high pressure to take over during the weekend, bringing much drier, clearer and sunnier weather, he said.

Friday will give the first glimpse of improving conditions as the day gets off to a dry and bright start for many.

A few showers and a cool breeze will develop into the afternoon, however, renewing the chilly conditions as of late.

But the weather will improve as the workweek comes to a close.

According to the Met Office, a largely dry weekend is expected for many across Wales with some good spells of sunshine.

On Saturday, the mercury will rise to a maximum of 21 C, with the brightest spells occurring around the coasts.

With this weekend marking the first since March where people are permitted to travel beyond five miles, the pleasant weather is likely to see crowds gather at area parks and beaches.

However, the Welsh Government is urging people to remember to social distance and avoid gathering in large groups.

Overnight on Saturday, temperatures will drop to a chilly 8-10 degrees Celsius before rebounding on Sunday.

Maximum temperatures on the final day of the weekend will range from 17-20 C, despite developing cloud.

Sun seekers should take advantage of the pleasant conditions before heavy rain moves in from the west to start the workweek.
