That’s A Wrap: The Best (& Worst) Looks From The Met Gala 2026 Red Carpet

Attention all fashion girlies, celebrity stans and pop culture fanatics: it’s officially the first Monday of May (in the US), which means it’s time for the 2026 Met Gala. This year’s annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, aka fashion’s biggest night, is themed “Costume Art”, with celebs given the official dress code “Fashion is Art”.

Vogue’s former editor-in-chief and long-time chairperson Anna Wintour (who has held the role since 1995) is hosting the event alongside co-chairs Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Beyoncé.

The 2026 Met Gala livestream kicked off at 8am via Vogue‘s various digital platforms (including YouTube and TikTok) and is hosted by Cara Delevingne, Ashley Graham and La La Anthony. Meanwhile, Emma Chamberlain reprises her role as red carpet correspondent for the sixth year in a row.

So, let’s get straight into it, shall we? Here’s what all your fave celebs wore to the Met Gala 2026.

The best (and worst!) looks on the Met Gala 2026 red carpet

Rihanna

Rihanna arrived fashionably late, as is her every right due to her Met Gala queen status, and her outfit was serving structural, futuristic high-glamour with A$AP Rocky by her side in a gorgeous pink trench coat. She wore a custom Maison Margiela gown designed by Glenn Martens from the brand’s Artisanal 2025 collection.

Blake Lively

It’s only been a few hours since news broke that Blake Lively had settled her It Ends With Us lawsuit with Justin Baldoni, but it wouldn’t be a Met Gala without the queen of the carpet attending, right? To be honest, I’m not entirely sure how her dress fits the theme other than if her costume art is a fluffy cloud or fairy floss, but I love the dramatic, multi-coloured train on the skirt nonetheless.

Cardi B

Cardi B never disappoints when it comes to the Met Gala. It’s like her intestines have left her body, quadrupled in size (probably more, TBH), landed at her feet and she’s trying to pick them up off the floor. Designed by Marc Jacobs, her gown is covered in bulbuous abstract pieces imitating tumours or cellular structures. It’s on theme, that’s for sure.

Madonna

(Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer/MG26/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Imagine needing an entire team to hold up your dress. Only the diviest of divas would do that, and that’s exactly what Madonna showed up in! Her outfit is very theatrical, from the dramatic headpiece to the ensemble cast surrounding her. She even has brought a trumpet-looking bag along with her if she feels like playing some music.

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter

Beyoncé has arrived with none other than her daughter Blue Ivy Carter in tow and both look AMAZING! And what a way for Mother to return after a decade-long hiatus! She wore what looks like a bedazzled skeleton and helmet/crown headpiece with a dramatic feathered cape. As for Blue Ivy, she kept her outfit non-chalant, pairing oversized sunglasses with a divine bubble hem white dress and oversized collar puffer jacket.

Blue Ivy joins a small list of celebs who have attended the Met Gala underage, including Elle Fanning (13), Hailee Steinfeld (14), Willow Smith (15), Saoirse Ronan (16), Lily-Rose Depp (16), Jaden Smith (17) and Chloë Grace Moretz (17) — although they all walked the famous steps before the rules officially changed in 2018.

Teyanna Taylor and Jeremy Pope

Teyana Taylor wore a custom masterpiece from Tom Ford, designed by the legendary Haider Ackermann. It was a departure from her usual street-style-inspired edge, leaning into high-concept “wearable sculpture”. She’s essentially a glorified silver fringe, and I love it.

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber is MOTHERRRR in this golden breast plate and cobalt blue chiffon skirt and cape. In a recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily she said she’s always “aiming… to be effortless and chic, and like I’m wearing the clothes and not that they’re wearing me”. And we’ve gotta say, the nailed that brief.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian; you either love her or you hate her, especially when it comes to her Met Gala looks. Personally, I like what she’s come up with this year! I think the armour corset in the shape of her bosy (minus the extra pointy boobs) can be analysed in a multitude of ways, AKA how her body is often objectified and seen as a commodity, a spectacle, or a piece of pop art for public consumption — but that might just my literature brain working overtime.

Kris Jenner

While I like Kim’s outfit, I can’t say the same for Kris Jenner. It’s giving ‘I dressed up as a hippie for my bougie Beverly Hills Halloween party’.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner is a pretty polarising Met Gala attendee every year — people either love or hate her looks. And while I bet this dress will be no different, I am utterly gagged by the way she’s taken the ‘naked dress’ to the next level in this nude corset and wedding-like gown. And the bleached brows?! NO NOTES!!! I wonder if she had the corset made specifically to her body…

Kendall Jenner

Do you reckon Kylie and Kendall Jenner coordinated outfits intentionally? While the older sister isn’t quite as undressed as her younger sibling, her gown revealed the top of a nude-look corset. She ate down with this one.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway gave full Queen of Geneva vibes in a custom Michael Kors Collection dress inspired by John Keats’ poem “Ode on a Grecian Urn” — because the devil wears ART.

Emily Blunt

My first thought when I saw Emily Blunt‘s outfit was ‘Yasss girl, give us NOTHING’. But I think the special parts of her dress are in the smaller details, like the tassels on the sleeves and pearl harness. It’s not my favourite look, but not my least fave, either.

Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci graced the red carpet with his wife, and Emily Blunt’s sister, Felicity Blunt. And while I think a family affair is super wholesome, his suit is giving us nothing! Love the guy, but it’s the Met. Please put a little extra effort in, you’re not excused no matter how iconic you are. That’s all.

Simone Ashley

After cementing herself as a fashion icon in The Devil Wears Prada 2, Simone Ashley attended her third Met Gala in a silver chain-link dress by Stella McCartney. I think I’ve seen this film before…on Kim Kardashian at the 2023 Met Gala. It’s like her stylist was stuck for ideas and took Kardashian’s look as HEAVY inspo, changing the metal and calling it a day. IDK about this one, to be honest.

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie was a late arrival to the red carpet in a gold lamé Chanel gown, and I hate to say I’m underwhelmed? She looks stunning, don’t get me wrong, but it’s like she grabbed a bedsheet with a feathered hem, clipped it at the back and called it a day. Perhaps a last-minute invitation?

Troye Sivan

Troye Sivan attended the Met Gala in a Prada ensemble inspired by queer photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, and I’m here for it. Fun fact: Troye played young Wolverine in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine long before he became a pop star, so his hairstyle is very much going back to his roots!

Daisy Edgar-Jones

Daisy Edgar-Jones is a bohemian feathery goddess in this custom Alexander McQueen gown. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

Lena Dunham

Taylor Swift might not have attended the 2026 Met Gala, but her friend Lena Dunham rocked up in a very Life of a Showgirl-esque outfit. The actress and author wore a red feathered Valentino gown inspired by Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi’s masterpiece, “Judith Slaying Holofernes”.

Eileen Gu

Freestyle skier Eileen Gu was a walking art installation in a custom Iris van Herpen look covered in around 15,000 bubble-like elements. I just want to know how on earth they hid a bubble machine in that dress so that there could be a trail of bubbles wherever she goes. She’s like a walking bubble bath — I love it. I wish I looked this chic with my Lush bath bomb.

Gracie Abrams

Gracie Abrams looks like a princess out of a story book in this divine gown from Chanel. It was a direct homage to Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss, an abstract artwork of two couples embracing each other. You can tell through the beading — obsessed!

Rachel Sennott

I Love LA star Rachel Sennott rocked up in a ‘60s-inspired colour block ensemble from Marc Jacobs, and chewing bubblegum while walking the red carpet to complement the look. FUN.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter can do no wrong in my eyes, and this Met Gala look is no exception. The top half of her dress is made from film negatives! How cool is that?! It adds a smart, tongue-in-cheek element to her 20s inspired costume, taking nostalgia to a whole new level. And we need to have a moment for how perfectly her hair curls in her long bob.

Tate McRae

I’ve been following Tate McRae since her YouTube days, so seeing how much she’s grown in these past few years is so heartwarming. From her bedroom to the Met Gala?! Diva is climbing the ranks like there’s no tomorrow. And her dress is fitting of a goddess — I love the gold feather detailing on the bust. It’s like something ancient Greek royalty would wear.

Sombr

If there’s one man who knows how to win a red carpet, it’s singer Sombr. My number one gripe with men on carpets at these events is when they play it safe with a boring black suit, and he never does this. He made his met Gala debut in a custom Valentino cape and matching shimmery skirt? Trousers? Skirt over trousers? That, paired with what looks like a black asymmetrical corset layered over a lace top, is heavenly.

Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny proved that he’ll still be an absolute hottie when he’s elderly, using makeup and prosthetics to age him up for the event. The Grammy winner wore a custom black tuxedo with an oversized bow and a cane — a rather boring ensemble saved by his daring transformation.

Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson looks like a splatter of paint grew legs, a killer face card, and started walking!

Nicole Kidman

Aussie icon Nicole Kidman attended her seventh Met Gala (and third as a co-chair) in a red sequinned Chanel gown with a feathered trim, giving major Moulin Rouge vibes.

Sunday Rose Kidman Urban

Sunday Rose, 17, made her Met Gala debut alongside her mum, Nicole, in a floral Dior dress, and also broke a major rule as guests must be over 18 to attend, like Blue Ivy.

Connor Storie

Our Heated Rivalry king gave the people (us) what they want by showing off his guns in an all-black Saint Laurent ensemble, pairing a black-and-white polka-dot blouse with a long sash.

Hudson Williams

Heated Rivalry‘s Hudson Williams made his Met Gala debut in a baby blue embellished matador suit and matched his co-star Connor with a dramatic train.

Emma Chamberlain

Emma Chamberlain has proven once again that she knows how to fit the brief at the Met Gala, arriving at her sixth event in a hand-painted custom Mugler dress. Fashion IS art.

Heidi Klum

Now THIS is art. Heidi Klum used her Halloween prosthetic makeup artist early this year with a dramatic — and slightly terrifying — recreation of the Veiled Vestal sculpture by Raffaelle Monti.

Hunter Schafer and Colman Domingo

(Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer/MG26/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

Hunter Schafer looks like a princess! I LOVE how she’s wearing a seemingly normal dress, but with a ‘costume’ spilling out from underneath. I could do a whole literary analysis on this outfit alone. But I won’t, because there’s far too much to get through.

Colman Domingo also looks flawless. His tunic is giving court jester, and I love it.

SZA

My jaw literally dropped when I saw SZA‘s vibrant yellow sundress on the Met Gala carpet. I’m picking it up off the floor as I type. Everything about this is INCREDIBLE, from the head piece and yellow makeup to the canary-coloured dress. And the wings are a beautiful finishing touch. Best dressed award is very likely SZA’s for the taking.

Lily Rose Depp

(Photo: Getty)

I’m in two minds about Lily Rose Depp‘s Met Gala outfit. On one side of the spectrum, I love this dress. But if I put any thought into it beyond surface level opinions, I can’t help but wonder how on earth this fits the theme? It’s kinda reminiscent of a 1920s flapper, which is fun, but that’s about it.

Cher

My gothic queen hath arrived! Cher is sporting some fresh bleach blonde hair with a punk rock outfit, and I’m obsessed. She wore a striking custom Burberry black, sheer tulle dress with a contrasting leather bolero. It’s very different from the designer’s signature tartan, and it’s very cool.

Charli xcx

Our brat queen wore a custom Saint Laurent black gown featuring a delicate glass iris flower on the bodice, which I’m hoping won’t get damaged as the night goes on.

Katy Perry

Yep, that’s Katy Perry reminding everyone she went to space last year with her futuristic, fencing-slash-astronaut mask.

Janelle Monet

Janelle Monáe‘s custom Christian Siriano gown was constructed from live green moss, circuit board fragments and over 200 electrical wires — and hopefully at least one of them is a working phone charger.

Alex Consani

Model Alex Consani wowed in not one, but two looks. She rocked up in a dreamy white boho-inspired dress that while stunning, didn’t do much for the theme. However, she did a dramatic undressing, revealing a black feathered gown underneath and nude corset. Consani worked with the design team at Gucci to create a custom ensemble inspired by Renaissance art, specifically Sandro Botticelli‘s masterpiece Primavera. It’s also reminiscent of Swan Lake, with the white swan to black swan transition.

Maya Hawke

Stranger Things star Maya Hawke attended her fourth Met Gala in a dramatic Dior ball gown, perfect for twirling on the dance floor.

Stevie Nicks

(Photo by Kevin Mazur/MG26/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

I never thought I’d hear Zara and Met Gala in the same sentence, but that’s exactly what Stevie Nicks wore in her gala debut! The dramatic number is a custom Zara dress designed by John Galliano, paired with a top hat for a moody, dramatic look straight out of a fairy tale book.

Doechii

The queen of divas, Doechii, has big shoes to fill after her iconic 2025 Met Gala outfit, and instead, she chose to leave the shoes at home and rock up barefoot. And we’re not mad about it, she looks insanely hot in this drapey dress/skirt situation she’s got going on. And the glam is perfection!

Doja Cat

Doja Cat wore a custom, nude-coloured latex toga by Saint Laurent, designed to resemble the draped fabric on ancient marble statues. It’s giving Dune.

Gigi Hadid

I feel like Gigi Hadid always goes very OTT at The Met Gala, so I was a little disappointed by this dress, I can’t lie. It feels like it’s leaning more into the sheer dressing trend rather than the ‘Costume Art’ theme. It’s okay, she can’t win every year!

Tyla

After breaking the internet in 2024 with her viral sand dress, Tyla returned to the Met Gala wearing a custom Valentino gown with a dramatic deep-V bodice. It’s giving J-Lo’s iconic Versace dress but make it 2026. In saying that, I don’t know if I like it, especially the shoes… I miss the sand dress.

Angela Bassett

Angela Bassett wore a pink floral gown by Prabal Gurung, inspired by Laura Wheeler Waring’s 1927 painting, “Girl in a Pink Dress” — quite a perfect inspo, if you ask me!

Jisoo

Jisoo looks like a water colour painting — her dress is so pretty! However, I fear that’s as far as it goes. Her outfit could be worn to a spring gala, but it isn’t giving ‘Costume Art.’

Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer leaned heavy into the romantic side of costume art, with a highly saturated, red monochromatic gown and hair to match! The fabric of her red dress had a slight sheen to it and was draped as though it looked like red paint on a canvas.

JENNIE

(Photo by Kevin Mazur/MG26/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue)

JENNIE looks stunning in this bedazzled sequin gown. But even though it’s shimmering to the gods, I’m finding it a tad boring, sorry!

LISA

LISA came prepared to play a game of peek-a-boo all night in a custom Robert Wun gown with an elaborate sheer veil.

Chase Infiniti

Chase Infiniti looks like she’s wearing one of those sand art pieces I did as a child on school holidays in my local shopping centre. Too niche? Maybe, but you get my drift. And I’m not saying that’s a bad thing — I adore this dress.

Naomi Osaka

Tennis legend Naomi Osaka wore two Robert Wun Couture looks, starting with a sculptural white coat-dress that she stripped off to reveal a crystallised red gown, symbolising the human anatomy. Fashion is art biology.

Joey King

Okay, I’ve gotta be honest, Joey King is usually my enemy number ONE on every single carpet. There’s just something about her outfits that never sit right with me. But WOW! I didn’t even recognise her for a couple seconds — her new hair is incredible. And her dress is so simple yet intricate; it looks like it was made for her. Obsessed.

Gwendoline Christie

Wednesday star Gwendoline Christie rocked the red carpet in a red mermaid gown designed by Giles Deacon, complete with a feathered headpiece and life-like mask. Get her on American Horror Story, stat.

Rachel Zegler

Rachel Zegler is giving BDSM bride, and I love it. There’s a delicate balance of femininity with a subversive edge.

Sam Smith

Sam Smith served full drama in a custom 23kg black couture gown designed by their partner, Christian Cowan. The look featured a fuzzy collar, winged sleeves, an enormous feathered headpiece and over 230,000 crystals and beads — because more is MORE.

Amanda Seyfried

On Mondays, Amanda Seyfried wears pink — a custom pink Prada ball gown, to be exact. Cast her as a live-action Disney princess now, you cowards!

Venus Williams

Long-time attendee and first-time co-chair Venus Williams centred her look around a diamond statement necklace, which would’ve definitely served as a key plot point in Ocean’s 8.

Cara Delevigne

Vogue‘s official livestream host Cara Delevigne wore a custom Ralph Lauren gown with a dramatic sheer back and cascading train, perfect for draping down the iconic steps.

Rosé

Black was definitely the colour of the night, with Rosé pairing her strapless evening gown with a large bird brooch designed by Tiffany & Co on her hip.

Ben Platt

You can always count on Ben Platt to not wear a boring black suit to the Met Gala (looking at you, James Corden and Ben Stiller), with the Dear Evan Hansen star instead wearing a custom Tanner Fletcher ensemble.

Alysa Liu

Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu wore a custom red gown with layers upon layers of ruffles, marking her debut as a Louis Vuitton House Ambassador.

Anna Wintour

Anna Wintour, aka the QUEEN of the Met Gala, wore a feathered cape draped over an embroidered ombre Chanel gown. And yes, she stuck to her usual style with a bob and sunglasses.

More to come.
