Son Heung-min has confirmed that he sent Andre Gomes a text message following his challenge on the Everton midfielder in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.
The Portuguese ace suffered a fractured dislocation of his ankle as a result of the tackle and has since undergone successful surgery on the injury.
Amid doubts over Son's state of mind ahead of Spurs' Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday evening, the player was handed a start by Mauricio Pochettino and scored twice in the 4-0 win.
It was much needed for the 27-year-old after an extremely tough few days and he did state after the game that he sent a message to the ex-Barcelona man before travelling out to Serbia.
"I texted him before I flew [to Belgrade on Tuesday] and he texted me back," he said (via The Guardian ). "I still feel really, really bad about this. I feel really sorry.
"Football is a sport where something [like this] can happen; nobody wants to see this situation.
"I’m so sad this happened and that I was involved with this situation. It’s been a really, really tough few days.
"I just texted him to say: ‘Best wishes to you, I’m really sorry for you, your family and your teammates.’
"He texted me back probably when he got back home [after his surgery]. I don’t want to talk about it [what Gomes said] too much."
