The message Harry Kane had for his Spurs team-mate Harry Winks after his first England goal

Harry Kane has spoken of his delight for Tottenham team-mate Harry Winks after scoring his first goal for England.

The Spurs midfielder netted his first goal for the Three Lions at senior level in the 4-0 win against Kosovo, with Winks opening the scoring in Pristina as Gareth Southgate's men recorded a seventh win in eight games in their qualification group.

And the England captain, who is also his team-mate at club level, said the 23-year-old deserved his goal as he spoke about him playing in a more advanced tole for the Three Lions than he does for Spurs.

"I'm delighted for him. Playing in a more forward role than what he is used to, wearing the number 10 shirt he managed to grab a goal," Kane said, speaking to ITV Sport.

"I'm delighted for him, he deserves it. He has done great this week and hopefully he can continue what he has done here."

And Kane believes England are in a good place with the competition for places among the squad, ahead of the European Championships next summer.

"There is competition everywhere. It was a chance for the gaffer to try Winksy a bit further up and obviously Winksy scored a goal and you win 4-0 it definitely helps.

"But look in that position we have got more than enough players. Mason [Mount] has come in, we’ve got Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain], Madders [James Maddison] on the bench, so loads of competition for places."

Meanwhile, Kane also posted a message on Twitter to congratulate Winks and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount on their first England goals.

He said: "A great way to finish the year for @England. Congrats @HarryWinks and @masonmount_10 on your first Three Lions goals. Bring on a big 2020."
