The message Arsene Wenger sent Arsenal and Freddie Ljungberg after Unai Emery sacking

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has sent a message to Freddie Ljungberg and his old club after Unai Emery's departure.

Wenger managed the Gunners from 1996 to 2018 but is now working with FIFA as head of global football development.

The Frenchman was interviewed today as part of his work with FIFA but naturally reporters couldn't resist asking him about the developments at his former team.

Emery was sacked by Arsenal last week and one of Wenger's former players in Ljungberg has taken over on an interim basis.

Whilst Wenger would not be drawn on his views on the club's decision to part ways with Emery, he did say what the club should do with Ljungberg in the short term.

"I do not want to comment too much on Arsenal. My heart is with the club and I want them to do well," Wenger told Sky Sports.

"I wish Freddie well. He is fantastically committed. He has wanted to do this job for a long time and he has got an opportunity.

"What we want in life is an opportunity. They should get him to work with his ideas and support him."

Ljungberg has spoken about how he wants to get in touch with his old boss in regards to advice on managing Arsenal, with Wenger added: "I am always happy to help my former player's and my former club. I will always be available."
