The mess left behind in Cardiff Bay after another mass gathering

This was some of the rubbish that was left behind after a large gathering in Cardiff Bay on Saturday night.

Police were called to monitor the area as crowds of young people met up in Roald Dahl Plass in the shadow of the Wales Millennium Centre.

There have been a number of gatherings in the area during lockdown, and there have been several complaints about the rubbish that has been left behind after the events.

It was not quite as bad as it has been, but on Sunday morning the area was still littered with bottles, laughing gas canisters and plastic bags.

Large bins put up in the area were also overflowing.

Pictures from the scene on Saturday night showed some people drinking and police officers at the scene.

On June 26, police were called to break up a similar gathering in the same area involving hundreds of people.

Beer cans and bottles were strewn across the area. It also included nitrous oxide gas canisters commonly used as a recreational drug and refereed to as 'hippy crack'.

The revellers who had dumped the rubbish were criticised when photos of workers clearing up were posted on Twitter.

Local residents have described the "appalling" behaviour as people urinated against walls, cars parked on double yellow lines blocking Bute Crescent and car engines revved late into the night.

South Wales Police said a "small number" of people were arrested for being drunk and disorderly and a dispersal order is now in place for the Mermaid Quay area to give officers extra powers in dealing with anti-social behaviour.
