The mess left behind from Cardiff's Winter Wonderland

We've all been trying to hang on to that last bit of festive spirit over the past few weeks.

Whether you've been sampling the last of the Christmas chocolates, tasted the last mince pie or removed the last decoration from your home.

But nothing shows Christmas has come to an end more than these pictures of Cardiff 's Winter Wonderland being deconstructed.

Things are looking a lot less merry and bright as the excitement has disappeared, along with the skates and the wonder that comes with the attraction.

The area is now a shell of what it was on the run up to the festive period.

It's grey, boggy and muddy as workers prepare to restore the area back to its original form.

A spokeswoman for the event organisers said the process usually takes a few weeks.

The site is looking pretty gloomy, muddy and boggy at the moment.

It's said to look worse due to the weather we've been having, which hasn't helped either.

A few tents and the odd bench or two can still be seen in the area.

Work is still in progress at the moment.

It's estimated it could take between two and three weeks before the area is back to normal.

Organisers confirmed the site is always looked after extremely well, and the team always ensure the site is clean and tidy before being passed back for public use.

Usually, after the area is restored, it becomes a public space for people to enjoy.

As for the Christmas lovers among us, you'll have to wait until the end of the year for all the Christmas magic to return.
