Amal’s hair The Sloaney blowdry bar template for 2014 – and beyond.

The Stan Smith The green-and-white plimsoll was hands down the trainer of 2014. One question, though: do we have to stop wearing them once 2015 rolls around?

Comedy faux fur The Cookie Monster was 2014’s unexpected outerwear inspiration, as fuzzy fur coats in jolly colours cheered up catwalks, street style blogs and fashion show front rows.

The weekly shop A supermarket on the Chanel catwalk; Frosties flakes reworked into a posh handbag by Anya Hindmarch. Forget the Ocado order – going to Sainsbury’s was a fashion event this year.

Cut-throat men with cut-glass cheekbones Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, Jamie Dornan as Paul Spector: the baddie-as-pin-up made hard-to-watch TV a little easier.

Dungarees From Prince George in Petit Bateau to Alexa Chung in white Ganni, all the A-list kids were in dungarees this year.

Bell jars The mantelpiece statement of the year. The bell jar on a ribbon even replaced the snowglobe/glittery reindeer as this year’s tree ornament. Don’t mention: Sylvia Plath.

Scuba Wetsuits went mainstream in 2014, thanks to Wang X HM.

OJ 2014 was the year we reached peak kale. If it wasn’t deep green, it wasn’t worth drinking.

Chandelier earrings Tiny mismatched studs from Loquet London or Maria Francesca Pepe; the “Mise en Dior” tribal take on pearls; Isabel Marant’s earcuffs: the alpha earrings of the year were small but mighty.

Man bun OK, yeah, kind of cool for a bit, but then one popped up on Proudlock from Made In Chelsea, so it needs to go in 2015.

Trad wedding dresses Solange in a cape and a cream jumpsuit, Olivia Palermo in a jumper and skirt: all in all, the bridal meringue had a terrible year.

Natural nails The summer 2014 trend for bare pedicures took a lot more maintenance than was fair, to be honest.

Radiant Orchid Sorry, Pantone. Cognac was the colour of 2014. In other words, posh 70s brown. Sounds so much more rock’n’roll than “tan”.

Running in tracksuit bottoms The trousers we used to go running in last decade (tracky bottoms) and the trousers we used to go clubbing in last decade (leggings) swapped places in 2014. Fashion is confusing sometimes.

Lifestyle guru beef Blake Lively, Gwyneth Paltrow and Martha Stewart spent the year bickering, and lifestyle websites kept coming. We kept snoring.
