The meaning behind Patrick Bamford's 'Z' celebration as Leeds United striker nets Chelsea opener

Patrick Bamford gave his Leeds United side a dream start against Chelsea when he opened the scoring after just four minutes at Stamford Bridge.

The Whites forward got on the end of a superlative Kalvin Phillips pass, beat Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to the ball and s lotted home to net against his former side.

The goal silenced the 2,000 Chelsea fans present for the first time at Stamford Bridge since fans were locked out back in March, with only the celebrations of the Leeds players staff to be heard.

Bamford celebrated with what has become his now-trademark celebration, as he made a 'Z' sign with his hands and showed it off to the cameras.

We saw the same celebration when he netted a hat-trick at Aston Villa, with the striker later revealing on social media that this was his way of raising awareness for climate change.

He said on Instagram : "This is the bolt. It's a symbol for planet, a force of nature and the centre of Hylo Athletics' mission using sport to inspire positive change for our earth.

"Sport, and particularly football in this country, has enormous power for good.

"Celebrating with the bolt is my way of standing up for our earth.

"Climate change is a threat to sport and if we don't act, it's going to get worse. I'm passionate about leaving our planet in a better place than we found it."
