A dozen members of Congress took to the House floor Friday afternoon to celebrate their 14-4 victory in this year’s Congressional Football Game for Charity.
The game is played every two years between current and former Capitol Police officers, self-dubbed “The Guards,” and a bipartisan congressional team joined by former NFL players, who go by “The Mean Machine.”
The uncharacteristically raucous floor tribute — as far as floor tributes go — ended with a nod to the Capitol Police and a reminder from Mean Machine co-captain Illinois Republican Rep. Rodney Davis that the “charities are the winners.” Beneficiaries of proceeds from the game included the U.S. Capitol Police Memorial Fund.
