The Maurico Pochettino shortcoming Liverpool will look to exploit against Tottenham Hotspur

Penny for the thoughts of Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino as he prepares to take on Liverpool on Sunday.

Only a few weeks ago, Pochettino was being linked with a possible move to take over either Real Madrid or Manchester United this summer.

First, Zinedine Zidane made a shock return to the Bernabeu. And on Thursday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's temporary tenure at Old Trafford was made permanent.

The accidental Man City favour helping Liverpool in Premier League title race

Such is life.

On the plus side, at least Tottenham's seemingly mythical new stadium is finally ready to go, just the seven months after it was supposed to open when Liverpool travelled south to take on the Lilywhites back in September.

The reverse fixture takes place this weekend with Tottenham, not so long ago title contenders, now a massive 15 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, albeit with a game in hand.

Liverpool vs Tottenham: Last five games at Anfield

And the portents suggest the Reds are favourites to make that 18 points.

Under Pochettino, in 23 league games away to top six rivals, Spurs have won only three - at Manchester City in 2015-16, Chelsea last season and United back in August.

This is despite Tottenham winning 11 away games in the top-flight this season - more than any other team.

There are further reasons for encouragement for Liverpool, with Pochettino having won only three of 13 meetings with the Reds as a manager - winning only one in 10 as Spurs boss - and Tottenham having won only four times in their last 72 league visits to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp's side will hope to deepen Pochettino's gloom this weekend.
