The Mauricio Pochettino link that could be key to ex-Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho's future

South American football expert Tim Vickery has suggested Tottenham could be suitors for Philippe Coutinho if he leaves Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool man has struggled to settle in with the La Liga champions since leaving the Premier League in 2018 but has a history with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino

Coutinho spent the second half of the 2011/12 season on loan with Espanyol from Inter Milan, who at the time were managed by Pochettino, and caught the eye after scoring five goals in 16 La Liga appearances.

Pochettino had expressed an interest in signing Coutinho the following year while he was manager at Southampton but he ultimately sealed a move to Liverpool, where he spent the next five years before his exit to Barcelona.

As such, Vickery has suggested that relationship could lead Spurs to make an approach for Coutinho's services during the summer window.

"The most logical place for him to come, surely, would be the Premier League. He did very well at Liverpool, and remember that relationship he had with Pochettino at Espanyol. Is there a little light flashing there?" He told Sky Sports News.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde is heavily linked with moves for attacking reinforcements this summer, with Antoine Griezmann widely expected to move to the Nou Camp from Atletico Madrid, and those transfers could push Coutinho closer to an exit.

A return to the Premier League has been suggested, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United all suggested as potential destinations for the Brazil international.
