The Matrix Awakens is an interactive experience for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

Geoff Keighley officially announced The Matrix Awakens  Monday, confirming  earlier leaks of its existence

Anyone that owns a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S can pre-load The Matrix Awakens  now, though it won’t be available until Dec. 9 after its official reveal during  The Game Awards. It’s still not confirmed if this is a video game or something else, with the Playstation Store description doing little to clarify.

“Get ready for a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment with [Unreal Engine 5] in this free, boundary-pushing cinematic and real-time tech demo.” reads the Playstation store page.

The description states that Lana Wachowski, director and writer of the upcoming Matrix Resurrections film, had a hand in creating The Matrix Awakens. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be in this as well.

Epic Games also released a trailer for The Matrix Awakens, which you can check out below. That’s an in-engine render of Reeves, not the actor himself, by the way. The valley, it is so uncanny.

The  KID A MNESIA Exhibitionthe digital exhibit by Radiohead, was another of these interactive experiences that Epic Games have done recently. Calling them “games” might be a bit much, hence the peculiar wordplay in product descriptions.

Lawrence Fishburne sadly won’t be part of this project,  perhaps because his character died in The Matrix Online.
