The match fixers by Weegee - a picture from the past
25 January 1945: Henry Rosen (left) and Harvey Stemmer (centre) cover their faces with handkerchiefs after their arrest for bribery and conspiracy to fix a US college basketball match. They were apprehended by chance; New York police had visited Rosen's apartment to investigate his handling of stolen goods (he was a well-known fence) when two Brooklyn College players entered to complete their deal to throw the next day's match against Akron University. The conspiracy was uncovered after they were grilled by the officers and Weegee was on hand to record their arrival at Manhattan police headquarters Illustration: Photograph: Weegee (Arthur Fellig) /International Centre of Photography/ Getty Images
