The Masters 2020 has been postponed due to coronavirus, but will be played at another date.
The PGA Tour cancelled The Players Championship on Thursday night and confirmed the tour was suspended for at least the next three weeks.
But now the first of the sport’s prestigious four majors this year, due to start on 9 April, has been postponed due to COVID-19.
A statement from the tournament organisers read: “Respecting the health and well-being of everyone associated with these events and the citizens of the Augusta community, the 2020 Masters Tournament, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals have been postponed.”
While Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, confirmed the intention to rearrange a date to play the tournament.
“Ultimately, the health and well-being of everyone associated with these events and the citizens of the Augusta community led us to this decision,” Ridley wrote.
“We hope this postponement puts us in the best position to safely host the Masters Tournament and our amateur events at some later date.”
