The Masters 2019 cut line details with Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth in danger

Bryson DeChambeau is currently leading the Masters after picking up where he left off on Thursday - but the chasing pack are closing in.

Friday’s round at Augusta will be crucial for the players looking to make a charge towards the top of the leaderboard, while yesterday’s under-performers will also need to sharpen up their game ahead of the weekend.

Saturday’s round will be a step too far for some, though, as the strugglers towards the bottom of the field are eliminated if they fail to ‘make the cut’.

After two rounds, the top 50 players and ties will qualify for weekend play, as well as any player within ten shots of the lead. Therefore, if 70 players were within ten shots of the 36-hole leader(s), then 70 players would make the cut.

At present, the projected cut is at four-over par so World No.1 Justin Rose and 2015 Masters champion Jordan Spieth will be nervously looking over their shoulder after struggling on Day One.

The cut line currently knocks out 17 of the 87 players that started, however it can change as the day progresses.

There was no cut in place between the maiden tournament in 1934 all the way through until 1956 but it was introduced to make play more manageable in the final two rounds.

DeChambeau produced fireworks on Thursday to light up Augusta, but there’s strong competition from the field.

Brooks Koepka dropped two early shots on Friday, though, after sharing the lead with the ‘mad scientist’ overnight.

Dustin Johnson is within striking distance and Franceson Molinari is also making a move up the leaderboard after a storming front nine on Day Two.

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods tee off later.
