The massive queue for Swansea's Debenhams that runs from the bus station to the Quadrant as store enters final days

A massive queue of shoppers has appeared outside Debenhams in Swansea just days before it's set to close for the final time.

Customers flocked to the department store in the city's Quadrant Shopping Centre on Tuesday, May 11, eager to make the most of the remaining heavy discounts as the retailer confirmed the store will be closing on Saturday, May 15.

On Tuesday morning a long line of shoppers queued from the store's entrance within the shopping centre before spilling outside and almost reaching the bus station.

It was announced in January that all stores would close when the brand was bought by online fashion retailer Boohoo for £55 million. Debenhams will relaunch as an online-only operation but stores around Wales have re-opened for one last sale before they close for good.

Stores in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Newport, Llandudno, Wrexham and Bangor already closed their doors earlier this month, with the stores in Cardiff and Swansea both remaining open until Saturday, May 15.

Last week a Debenhams spokesman said: "We are now heading into the final days of our closing down sale and this is the very last chance for our customers to take advantage of some incredible deals. With up to 80% off across our remaining stores, customers are urged to shop now while stocks last.

"Over the next 10 days, Debenhams will close its doors on the high street for the final time in its 242-year history. Our sincere thanks go out to all of our colleagues and customers who have joined us on this journey. We hope to see you all one last time in stores before we say a final goodbye to the UK high street."

Inside the Swansea store, rows of empty clothing racks could be seen next to shelves with a dwindling supply of products as shoppers snapped up their final purchases.

When it was first announced that the store would be closing, many called it a "big blow" and said that it would leave a "gaping hole" in Swansea's city centre.
