The Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham conversation that led to Chelsea's winner vs Aston Villa

Mason Mount has revealed he and Tammy Abraham came to an agreement at half-time which led to the former’s winner for Chelsea against Aston Villa.

The Blues bounced back from their weekend defeat to West Ham as they beat Villa 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham opened the scoring midway through the first half before Trezeguet equalised for the visitors just before the break.

Mount then volleyed home a superb second three minutes into the second half after being set up by Abraham.

And, speaking to Amazon Prime Video after the game, Mount revealed his goal came as a result of a conversation with his England team-mate at half-time.

“We were actually in the tunnel before the second half, and we spoke to each other and just said if the ball falls to him and he can’t shoot, he’s going to set me up,” Mount said.

“It happened, and it came off so well!

“What a set from him, and it was perfect for me to hit first time.”

Chelsea’s victory means the Blues strengthen their position in the top four of the Premier League, having responded to their surprise defeat at the hands of the Hammers at the weekend.

And Abraham said it was important to react to that defeat.

He said: “Aston Villa have come away from Old Trafford with a point, so we knew they were going to come here with a lot of confidence.

“It was about our reaction, and we clearly showed that today.”
