The Masked Singer winner Nicola Roberts is plotting Girls Aloud reunion

Nicola Roberts, fresh from her win on the Masked Singer, is plotting a Girls Aloud reunion.

The Queen Bee – who was unmasked on Saturday night – says she has designs on doing it for a landmark in the girls’ history in two years time.

“Our anniversary of 20 years is in 2022, so I’d love something to happen around then,” she tells the Mirror.

Nicola, 34, is definitely ruling out one wardrobe option, though.

“I think the fans would prefer us not to wear masks,” she laughs.

Meanwhile, it’s a good thing Cheryl Tweedy wasn’t chosen for the judging panel otherwise it would have been game over for Nicola before it started.

Nicola says Cheryl and their bandmate, Kimberley Walsh, guessed that she was Queen Bee – just from watching the trailer for the show at Christmas.

She said: “I got a barrage of texts from them. I just had to say, ‘No! It’s not me.’ They didn’t believe me. They were just like, ‘We don’t know how you think you could lie to us?’

“I said, ‘I imagine the NDAs those people have to sign are catastrophic, so if you’d just like to back off and leave me alone’.”

Nicola, who is performing in musical City of Angels at London’s Garrick Theatre from March 5, has also given the strongest hint yet that her doll-like bee head was a nightmare.

“It did affect my singing,” she said. “The first time I did a dress rehearsal, I had a moment where I literally could not breathe.”

She also stopped by This Morning to chat about her win, and said: "The week before the final I got a bit stir crazy. I left the dressing room and could hear them saying, 'Queen Bee's left the dressing room'.

"I went up to a member of production and asked to walk around the car park to get a bit of air. I could see her ready to say, that's not a good idea so I said, 'I said I’m going to walk around the car park before I crack'."

Nicola admitted she felt claustrophobic in the Queen Bee outfit and "felt like a ball of fire inside".

She explained: "Where the mouth is, that is basically all you can breathe through. You’re breathing in your own air.

"The first dress rehearsal I did have a wobbler. I got halfway through the song and couldn’t breathe or get the note out. I walked off.

"I said guys this is impossible. I couldn't get any air in to sing. We cut the balaclava and it made it a bit better."
