Aston Merrygold managed to keep his identity on The Masked Singer a secret from all but two people.

After weeks of speculation, the JLS singer was finally revealed to be behind Robin’s costume during Saturday’s final (13 February).

However, while viewers at home were convinced that Merrygold was Robin, the musician told very few people that he was on the show.

“I actually told two people. My fiancée Sarah knew and my manager, that was it,” he said, revealing that his fellow JLS bandmates had had no idea.

Merrygold also said that he’d had no idea about who was behind his fellow competitors’ costumes, saying: “Honestly, you’ve got one person that dresses you with your mask on and everything, and they take you around and you’re masked up. Even when you’re out of the Robin mask, for instance, you’ve got a visor on and hoodie covering you, gloves on.

“That one person is still guiding you around and then you’re locked in your dressing room, and don’t know who anybody is. You’re literally looking at how they walk and their mannerisms to find out.”

Merrygold came in third place during the final, losing out to Ne-Yo, who was revealed to be Badger and Joss Stone, who won the competition as Sausage.

The series two final of The Masked Singer was watched by an average audience of 8.6 million viewers, up 2.2 million from the first series’ final.
