The Masked Singer's Tree isn't Peter Crouch as footballer responds to speculation

Football Peter Crouch has come clean about growing speculation that he is one of the contestants on The Masked Singer.

While some bemused and irate viewers have called for the show to be axed, there is no escaping the fact that The Masked Singer has generated a huge reaction after debuting on ITV at the weekend.

The frankly bonkers new series, hosted by former I'm A Celebrity finalist Joel Dommett, launched on the channel on Saturday night.

It sees 12 famous faces disguised in elaborate costumes as they perform in front of panellists TV presenter Jonathan Ross; chart-topping singer Rita Ora; TV favourite Davina McCall and Hollywood actor and comedian, Ken Jeong .

The show has sparked a VERY mixed response but, as some call for , others have been drawn into the guessing game.

The first two shows saw everything from a to a singing tree, and speaking of the tree, both Rita and some people watching at home think it's Peter Crouch.

However, Rita and anyone else who thinks the former England striker has 'branched' out into appearing on singing shows, you're sadly mistaken.

Peter took to Twitter on Sunday night to disappoint viewers by posting "I can confirm I am not a singing tree."

Oddly, just days earlier Peter had uploaded a picture of a tree to his account, fuelling the speculation even more.

Other guesses for the tree include Harry Redknapp, his son Jamie, Paul Merson, Matt Le Tissier and even David Beckham.
