The Masked Singer's Sophie Ellis-Bextor was rumbled by judges before reveal

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has revealed three of The Masked Singer judges did question if she was the celebrity under the Alien costume on the first episode of the show - with her quickly realising her disguised vocals did not throw them off the scent.

Unfortunately for them all four judges chose other people as their final guesses and didn't stick with Sophie - but Sophie said it made her realise she'd been found out.

The music favourite was booted off the show in the first episode, after failing to get the backing from judges Rita Ora, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and new judge Mo Gilligan.

As she removed her mask, the audience and the panel were in shock and quickly praised the star.

The Murder on the Dancefloor singer disguised her distinctive voice for the show, with many not realising it was her.

But several viewers at home quickly realised it was Sophie - something she has taken as a compliment.

During the show after Alien performed, a number of names were suggested including Sophie Dahl, Joel Dommett's wife Hannah Cooper and even TV detective Vera.

Then, as it came to the reveal, the final guesses were Lily Allen, Hannah and the above.

But Sophie revealed that something which wasn't shown on the night was that three of the four judges were right with guessing her amongst their ideas - just not in their final choices.

While she didn't name names, she did confess she knew at that point her game was up and her plan hadn't worked.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press about her departure, Sophie said even her one-year-old son knew it was her from the moment she opened her mouth - as she explained her decision to hide her voice.

Sophie told us: "My kids found it absolutely hilarious that I had put on some weird accent, they were like 'why on Earth did you do that?'.

"For me I remember last year when the show was on, saying to someone oh there is no way I could do that programme because people always say I've got a distinctive voice.

"So I thought I've got to jump in with both feet really, and play the game because it's not really a singing competition, it's an identity competition.

"I suppose it's a compliment, but the fact that as soon as I opened my mouth even as the Alien my one year old, and I don't even know how he did this, pointed at the TV and said 'mummy'.

"Richard my husband was watching on Twitter and said, 'yeah, everyone is saying it's you' and I suppose in a way that's lovely cos you want to have a recognisable voice if you're a singer, but I felt like I'd done quite a good job so was quite surprised!"

She went on: "They didn't put it in the edit but three of the judges said my name on the day, so I already knew I'd been rumbled very quickly!"

The Masked Singer continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
