The Masked Singer's Rita Ora makes controversial comment about identity of Firework

Fans of The Masked Singer have called out judge Rita Ora for appearing to not know the name of a 1980s pop icon.

Episode three of ITV show hit screens tonight (Saturday, January 8), and following the first performance of the night, fans and judges alike scrambled to guess the identity of the contestant known as Firework.

Guesses from judges so far have included Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague, model Jodie Kidd and actress Michelle Keegan.

During tonight's broadcast fans took to social media after Rita, 31, struggled to find the name of a 1980s pop icon despite her own links to the star.

Following Firework's performance, former X Factor judge Rita said: "Who is the woman really close to Simon Cowell who wore the palm trees?"

Fellow judges on the panel suggested she must be referring to Sinitta.

Rita's comment was in response to Firework's clue that an outfit they had worn in the past had got everyone talking.

During last weekend's episodes, viewers of the show criticised Rita for her 'ridiculous' guesses, which included American A-Listers Zendaya and Ellen DeGeneres.

And tonight's episode has been no different, with fans expressing their disbelief that Rita could not think of Sinitta's name, despite her links to The X Factor.

Matt Tweeted: "OBSESSED with Rita Ora not knowing who Sinitta is even though she was also an X Factor judge"

Alfie said: "Just imagining Rita Ora running away from "that woman Sinitta" through the corridors of Fountain Studios during her X Factor judging stint."

Meanwhile, Ariadne joked: "We can however safely deduce that Sinitta is not in Rita Ora's phonebook."

The blunder could well prove awkward between the pair, as Sinitta has previously admitted she would love for Rita to cover her 1985 hit 'So Macho'.

However, in 2015, the pop star did say she thought The X Factor judges of that year 'lacked experience', saying: "I do think the panel lacks experience, Rita is obviously amazing and doing incredibly well, but it's still a few years, it's not five or 10 years."
