The Masked Singer's Morten Harket, 61, reveals secret to heartthrob youthful look

The secrets to eternal youth are steering clear of alcohol and swerving beauty products, according to Morten Harket.

Though the A-ha singer says being a heartthrob at 61 is "embarrassing” after being fawned over when he was revealed to be Viking on The Masked Singer.

The Norwegian popstar mainly uses his own good genes to maintain his youthful complexion.

“If you keep putting a lot of stuff on to soften your skin, or to moisten your skin, then your system will be confused,” he explains.

“Your system reads the skin and what the skin needs, and it provides you with what you need usually. So I think you need to back off a little with products.”

As for his floppy fringe, which has retained its 80s bouffant shape, he laughs: “It’s my pandemic hair.”

Morten’s abstinence from alcohol started when the pop trio’s careers kicked off when they would be given “two or three excellent bottles of wine” on their rider.

“I realized very quickly that it would be such a waste to just leave them, but it would be more of a waste to have them,” he says.

“I couldn’t start doing that, so I just didn’t.

“I’m fine being slightly p***ed, but it’s not something I do. I need to be alert and awake and ready to go and I need to have my head together and have my focus available. I enjoy feeling that way.”

He says wearing his restrictive hairy costume meant he couldn’t even slightly lean backward or forwards, due to the weight of the Viking helmet, which caused some of that imbalance he doesn’t enjoy.

“I felt like a drunk trying to cross the M4,” he laughs.

The Masked Singer continues on ITV at 7pm on Saturday.
