The Masked Singer’s Kelis lifts the lid on extreme measures used to protect identity of performers

Kelis has lifted the lid on the extreme measures used to protect the identity of performers on The Masked Singer UK.

The Milkshake singer was unmasked as Daisy over the weekend on the ITV show after being rumbled by judge Rita Ora.

Kelis revealed today that the performers have to wear signs that say 'don’t speak to me' backstage in a bid to prevent their identities from being prematurely found out.

The American star appeared live via video link on Lorraine to discuss her time on the show, and opened up about how the identities of the singers are kept under wraps.

She told host Lorraine Kelly: "You're not even supposed to see anyone. The weirdest thing is being there and not having contact with anyone at all.

"You have shirts on that say 'don’t speak to me', you're not allowed to talk to anybody."

Kelis admitted that the steps taken to conceal people’s true identity is working - she said she has no idea who her co-stars are.

"I have no idea, honestly, we weren't allowed to watch the other performances, we were literally kept in the dark," she admitted.

Kelis also spoke of having to perform on stage in such a restrictive costume.

“It is really hard, it’s awkward and it’s hot,” she laughed.

The series, hosted by Joel Dommett and also featuring hosts Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Ken Jeong, has had viewers scratching their heads over which celebs are wearing the bizarre costumes.

Other stars who have been unmasked include Justin Hawkins as Chameleon, Patsy Palmer as Butterfly, and Teddy Sheringham as Tree.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
